My commandN mesh contest entry

9 May 2008 In: geek, web

commandN is running a contest where the winner(s) receive tickets to the mesh Web conference in Toronto later this month. Since 1) mesh looks really interesting, 2) I want to do some podcast work, and 3) I’ve been looking for an excuse to take a break from Vancouver for a couple days, I thought I’d give the contest a shot.

All that is required to enter is a short video explaining why you want to go to mesh. Apparently, points are given for creativity, so I got creative.  :)

Lay down $2995 for your very own R2D2 DVD player with built-in high-def video projector. Oh, and the remote control looks like the Millennium Falcon and allows you to position R2 to project on the wall or ceiling. Nice! I wonder if Nat would let me have one. Here’s the order page over at the Star Wars Shop.

HP 2133 Mini-Note in Canada

23 Apr 2008 In: geek, web

Update: I bought an HP-2133 from NCIX about a month ago. It’s a neat little unit – I still prefer my MacBook Pro, but the 2133 is a nice secondary computer.

I love my MacBook Pro, but to be honest at times it can be a bit much to lug around. I picked up a Nokia N800 Internet Tablet, but I find it to bit somewhat slow, and it’s not easy to write full blog posts with. The ASUS Eee-PC also caught my eye recently, but its tiny keyboard and relatively cheap construction left me wanting more.

So when HP announced their new HP 2133 Mini-note laptop, I perked up. Aluminum chassis, 8.9″ screen, and it ships with two batteries (standard and extended)! The price was right too, $499 for the entry-level Linux version with a 4 GB flash drive, or $549 for a similar model with a 120 GB hard drive.

Of course, finding one of these in Canada has been a problem. But things are looking up – the Canadian HP website now contains 2133 specs and information, although still no way to buy one.

Does anybody know of a Canadian retailer, online or off, that carries these laptops?
